    Cyclists don’t lose weight!

I am talking about those who ride 100Km+ distances.

If you thought such riders were supposed to lose weight.. hey wait.

    On a long ride, you

    • perspire a lot, losing water faster
    • have burnt all available energy and running on reserve
    • are probably tired after a long ride in the sun

What it does is….. increases your appetite!

A cyclist tends to hog!! And in between, drinks litres and litres of liquids in the form of butter milk, lime soda, juice in addition to just plain water.

Here is what I ate and drank during my 2 day Wayanad ride (in scorching heat). (Without counting the electral mixed water I drink from my bottle during the ride.. that’s around 3-4L). And I am the type who doesn’t eat much at all…

Day 1 (75Km of cycling, a trek to a waterfall and a bath)

    • 8.30 am – Idly, Vada and tea
    • 11.15 am – Tea
    • 11.45 – Tea, chikki, banana (Nendram, the heavyweight champ of bananas), hot water (yeah, I was not sure of the water quality in that tiny shop. So drank hot water in that scorching heat)
    • 2 pm – Butter milk (2 large glasses),  tons of water, and bit of this and that (coke, 7up, etc)
    • 3 – lunch (2 roti’s, curry, curd rice)
    • 5 – tea, soda
    • 8 pm – Lots of water
    • 9.30 pm – dinner (malabar fish curry, chicken curry, basmati white rice, curd rice, tea)

Day 2 (40Km of cycling, trek to a water fall and a bath)

    • 6.15 – tea
    • 8.00 – breakfast (idly, vada) and tea
    • 9 – lime soda
    • 10 – Oris energy drink
    • 11 – lime soda and amla
    • 12.30 – 2.5 large cups of buttermilk, 1 cup of mango juice, 1 ltr water, 3 oranges, few grapes
    • 3.30 – lunch (3 large parotta with dal fry) and tea
    • 12 midnight at home – dinner (hogged fried chicken, rasam with white rice). 3 large cups of buttermilk, 3 large cups of water.
    • the bits and pieces of water I drank from other’s bottles will amount to more than 3-4L I guess

Note: Kerala cups are much bigger. Easily takes half a litre I think. Even tea cups are nothing less than 250 ml I think.

If this is what I ate, imagine how much the ‘big-eaters’ would have eaten!!!!

Now, you tell me! Will cycling help you lose weight?

I think cycling doesn’t help bring down your weight! Instead it builds your appetite!
