“Which are the best books that any investor should read?”

    Many people have this question.

I have attempted to answer that question in this post. I have read almost all the books listed here. But have included a few which I haven’t read too, because the reviews of those were very good and from very reliable sources. I have indicated the ones I haven’t read yet. Okay, here we go!

    Basics
Any investor who has a strong hold on the basics is leaps and bounds ahead of the one who doesn’t. I would say every single book in this basic section is a must!

    1. One up on Wall Street by Peter Lynch. An amazingly well written book, one of the best for both the novice and the expert.
    2. The Intelligent investor by Benjamin Graham. The bible! Miss this and you can’t be an intelligent investor.
    3. Common stocks and uncommon profits by Philip A Fisher. Great book on long term growth and focus oriented investing
    4. The essays of Warren Buffett. The master at his very best!
    5. The interpretation of financial statements by Benjamin Graham. A simple book on balance sheet basics.
    6. Richest man in Babylon by George Clason. A timeless classic on personal finance.

    Further reading
Once you have completed the basic books and are thirsty for more, please choose from this list.

    1. The Warren Buffett way by Robert G Hagstrom
    2. The Warren Buffett portfolio by Robert G Hagstrom
    3. Competitive strategy by Michael Porter (unread)
    4. Poor Charlies almanac (unread)
    5. Cashflow quadrant by Robert Kiyosaki
    6. Financial shenanigans (unread)
    7. Security analysis first edition by Ben Graham (unread)
    8. Good to great by Jim Collins
    9. Think and grow rich by Napoleon Hill

    Psychology of investing
And I would say, the psychology of investing is a big factor in determining your success. So please read at least 3 from this list.

    1. Where are the customer’s yachts? By Fred Schwed Jr
    2. Extraordinary popular delusions and madness of crowds Charles Mackay
    3. Liars Poker
    4. Reminiscences of a stock operator by Edwin Lefevre (actually this one talks about trading. Nevertheless a favourite of mine)

    Psychology of self
Nothing is complete without knowing who you are and why you do things the way you do. Knowledge of the self will help you a lot. I have included some unusual books.

    1. Psycho-cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. This book does a good job of explaining success and failure patterns. And also gives great insight into human behaviour.
    2. How to stop worrying and stop start living by Dale Carnegie. This wonderful book tells us how to cope up with pressure, losses, failure, etc. Do not think that this book is unnecessary to you by reading the title. It’s a fantastic book.

    Other books for an investor

    1. First things first by Stephen Covey. Book on prioritizing and planning things, focussing on the wholesome quality of life. Absolutely essential for every investor.
    2. The mind map book by Tony Buzan. This book is a fantastic one that teaches how to organize your thoughts. It could have been less self-proclaiming. But it’s good.
    3. How to develop a super power memory by Harry Lorrayne. A good memory goes a long way in helping an investor. Must read.
    4. Six thinking hats by Edward de Bono. This book helps in good decision making.
    5. Creative visualization by Shakthi Gawain. If you like to visualize and imagine things, this is a great addition.
    6. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. You will find great wealth tough to achieve without the support of your near and dear ones! This book teaches you love in the simplest possible way!
    7. How to make friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie. Any investor needs support from people. You cant be people unfriendly and go very high in life. Pls read.

    Autobiographies

    1. Straight from the gut – Jack welch
    2. The autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
